About

Welcome to HiFi Goals, a website dedicated to sharing encouragement and good counsel with those enjoying the hifi journey. My passion is for tube amplifiers, classic turntables, high-efficiency speakers, and the pursuit of the best possible sound quality relative to what I like. Establishing a standard of what might be best for others or dismissing different preferences or goals isn’t helpful long term as there is nothing so instructive as getting where you thought you wanted to go and better understanding what’s next or what’s missing. I believe that every audiophile's journey to a better system is a unique and personal experience, filled with opportunities to learn and discover new ways to appreciate music. I prioritize music over bleeding-edge technology but I'm also comfortable with exploring new ways to achieve aural bliss where the old ways have failed. I do, however, relish opportunities to enjoy the rich sound of vintage equipment and new equipment designed after early hifi gear.

At HiFi Goals, I aim to provide a platform for audiophiles to share their experiences, knowledge, and insights. From reviews of tube and low-power amplifiers and high-efficiency speakers, to comparisons of vinyl records, I hope to provide informative and engaging content that will inspire and inform. My focus on classic turntables, high-efficiency speakers, and vinyl records is driven by a belief that music should be experienced in an unabashedly fun or relaxing manner and that the quest for perfect studio sound in a home environment can be an unrealistic goal. I appreciate the warmth and depth that can be achieved with analog playback, and I seek to help others discover and enjoy this experience as well.

Above all, I believe that the journey to a better system is one that never truly ends. There is always more to learn, more to discover, and more ways to improve the listening experience. I hope to be a part of what encourages you on this journey, and to help you achieve the best possible sound for your tastes and stage of hifi experience.

About me:

Sean Gray is a writer and executive based in Detroit, Michigan. With years of experience in the audio visual equipment sales industry, Sean has been a passionate audiophile for almost two decades. He has spent countless hours researching, buying, and selling audio equipment, giving him somewhat well-trained ears over the years on and off the equipment carousel. He was fortunate early on in the journey to own very resolving equipment from classic Yamaha NS1000 monitors to ATC stand mount speakers that helped define what was possible on the less colorful end of the spectrum and has now been initiated into the more euphonic sound of tube gear. His passion for audio equipment led him to explore tube amplifiers, high efficiency speakers, classic idler-driven turntables, and various audio tweaks which add up to a reliably enjoyable listening experience. Through his writing, Sean hopes to share his knowledge and expertise with other audiophiles, encouraging them to learn and grow in their pursuit of building the perfect audio system for their unique Hifi Goals.
